Course Description:
As an introductory discipline, this course seeks to distinguish between "information" in its broadest sense and "information document", regarded as a social phenomenon. Thus, we shall consider the social function of the document within the information society and knowledge beyond the specific policies and programs of the documentary resources.


Competences:
At the end of this unit is intended that students are able to:
• learn the world of information;
• defining the role of the library technician;
• identify and classify the various information media.


Contents:
Presentation of library and documentation centers whiles the twenty-first century realities, which require innovative performances. The role of technical libraries and their relationship with the user. Awareness of the challenge the current world of information and documentation. The various information media: scripto, audiovisual, digital and others. The function of reference works.

Assessment:
Continuous assessment is privileged: 2 or 3 digital written documents (e-folios) during the semester (40%) and a presence-based final exam (p-folio) in the end of the semester (60%). In due time, students can alternatively choose to perform one final presence-based exam (100%).
