Course Description:
The Curricular Unit of Psychosocial Intervention aims to understand the methodology of psychosocial intervention from a Social Work perspective, which aims to:
•    Identify the object of psychosocial intervention and its relationship with Social Work;
•    Situate the psychosocial intervention in the various procedural dynamics of Social Work with emphasis on the individualization of the intervention and the systemic contributions to the understanding of the whole;
•    Apply the methodology of psychosocial intervention in different socio-cultural contexts, family and individual, identifying complementary techniques to the help relationship;
•    Situate the challenges and defend a critical position, from the application of psychosocial intervention in contemporary times.

At the same time, aspects of methods and techniques of the Psychosocial Intervention process are analyzed and other complementary integration techniques are presented. Taking into account the values in the help process, the professional / client / client / individual / families relationship is worked through reflection based on multiple practical examples. Thus, in the light of different social and cultural contexts, various techniques are exercised in the various stages of the Psychosocial Intervention process. This curricular unit makes known, also through the sharing of experiences, different ways of operationalizing the work process of social actors. In this sense, theoretical and practical knowledge of professional daily life are presented and tools are provided, aiming to bring students closer to professional practice.

 


Competences:
It is intended that at the end of this course, the student has acquired the following skills:
•    Identify the object of psychosocial intervention in relation to social work and understand and interpret social reality;
•    Learn and apply all phases of the Psychosocial Intervention process;
•    Apply the methodology of psychosocial intervention in different problems and socio-cultural contexts.

 


Contents:
This curricular unit will deal with the following themes:
•    What is psycho-social intervention? Psychosocial Intervention and Social Work - the pioneers and their followers
•    Social issues in contemporaneity and social intervention: From individualized intervention, case to systemic - psychosocial intervention
•    Psychosocial intervention as a model of professional intervention (the call for help, the relationship, the diagnosis, the action plan - defining priorities in the problems, capacity and objectives to reach - the interpretative and operational synthesis; the contract / involvement of the agents; professional follow-up and process evaluation);
•    Family-centered multiprofessional and multisectoral intervention - helping relationship in specific areas.
•    Complementary techniques: genogram, eco map, record keeping, social history, social report
•    Examples of practices based on the psychosocial intervention model and critical view of the current psychosocial intervention model

Assessment:
Continuous assessment is privileged: 2 or 3 digital written documents (e-folios) during the semester (40%) and a presence-based final exam (p-folio) in the end of the semester (60%). In due time, students can alternatively choose to perform one final presence-based exam (100%).

Obs. If it’s possible we will have an Open Class
- Class with an expert in Social service area (or other professional who works in the field of Social Intervention).
